He was the author of nearly nine hundred paintings and more than a thousand drawings, loved to paint city views, self-portraits and still lifes. As brilliant as misunderstood, Van Gogh influenced the art of the twentieth century, after spending several years suffering from frequent mental disorders, died at the age of thirty-seven years.
Verso
the back shows a representation of the Starry Night. Painting of the Dutch painter, realized in 1889 and conserved to the Museum of Modern Art of New York. A true icon of Western painting, the painting depicts a nocturnal landscape of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, just before sunrise, where he was hospitalized as a result of his mental instability: he stayed there for twelve months, from May 1889 to May 1890. In painting, in fact, as in nature, he was able to find comfort from his imbalances.
